The Research on Measurement of Drift in the Evaluation Conclusion of Single Method

Chen Guohong,Li Meijuan,Chen Yantai

Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 3,   Pages 58-63

Abstract:

In this paper drifting nature in the evaluation conclusion of single method is investigated in order to offer the experiment basis for combination evaluation. First, real evaluation problems are divided into 3 classes and emulation experiments are carried on them separately. Then, objects to be evaluated are generated by Matlab 6.1, and are evaluated by using different methods. Third, the compatibility of the comprehensive evaluation methods is discriminated. Finally, the average of the compatible methods is adopted as reference frame in order to measure drifting degree of each method quantitatively.

Behaviour of self-centring shear walls——A state of the art review

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2023, Volume 17, Issue 1,   Pages 53-77 doi: 10.1007/s11709-022-0850-0

Abstract: The application of unbonded post-tensioning (PT) in structural walls has led to the development of advanced self-centring (rocking) shear wall systems that has significant advantages, including accelerated construction due to the incorporation of prefabricated elements and segmental construction for different materials (e.g., concrete, masonry, and timber), reduced residual drifts, and little damage upon extreme seismic and wind loads. Concrete, masonry, and timber are often used for the construction of unbonded PT structural wall systems. Despite extensive research since the 1980s, there are no well-established design guidelines available on the shear wall configuration with the required energy dissipation system, joint’s locations and acceptance criteria for shear sliding, confinement, seismic performance factors, PT loss, PT force range and residual drifts of shear walls subjected to lateral loads. In this research a comprehensive state-of-the-art literature review was performed on self-centring shear wall system. An extensive study was carried out to collect a database of 100 concrete, masonry, and self-centring shear wall tests from the literature. The established database was then used to review shear walls’ configurations, material, and components to benchmark requirements applicable for design purposes. The behaviour of concrete, masonry and timber shear walls were compared and critically analysed. The general behaviour, force-displacement performance of the walls, ductility, and seismic response factors, were critically reviewed and analysed for different self-centring wall systems to understand the effect of different parameters including configurations of the walls, material used for construction of the wall (concrete, masonry, timber) and axial stress ratio. The outcome of this research can be used to better understand the behaviour of self-centring wall system in order to develop design guidelines for such walls.

Control concept and countermeasures for shallow lakes' eutrophication in China

JIN Xiangcan, LU Shaoyong, HU Xiaozhen, JIANG Xia, WU Fengchang

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2008, Volume 2, Issue 3,   Pages 257-266 doi: 10.1007/s11783-008-0063-3

Abstract: Research on lake eutrophication in China began in the early 1970s, and many lakes in China are now known to be in meso-eutrophic status. Lake eutrophication has been showing a rapidly increasing trend since 2000. Investigations show that the main reasons for lake eutrophication include a fragile lake background environment, excessive nutrient loading into lakes, excessive human activities, ecological degeneration, weak environmental protection awareness, and lax lake management. Major mechanisms resulting from lake eutrophication include nutrient recycling imbalance, major changes in water chemistry (pH, oxygen, and carbon), lake ecosystem imbalance, and algal prevalence in lakes. Some concepts for controlling eutrophication should be persistently proposed, including lake catchment control, combination of pollutant source control with ecological restoration, protection of three important aspects (terrestrial ecology, lake coast zone, and submerged plant), and combination of lake management with regulation. Measures to control lake eutrophication should include pollution source control (i.e., optimize industrial structural adjustments in the lake catchment, reduce nitrogen and phosphorus emission amounts, and control endogenous pollution) and lake ecological restoration (i.e. establish a zone-lake buffer region and lakeside zone, protect regional vegetation, utilize hydrophytes in renovation technology); countermeasures for lake management should include implementing water quality management, identifying environmental and lake water goals, legislating and formulating laws and regulations to protect lakes, strengthening publicity and the education of people, increasing public awareness through participation in systems and mechanic innovations, establishing lake region management institutions, and ensuring implementation of governance and management measures.

Design concept of the Twin River Bridges in Chongqing, China

Man-Chung TANG

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2011, Volume 5, Issue 4,   Pages 427-431 doi: 10.1007/s11709-011-0134-6

Abstract: The Dongshuimen Bridge over the Yangtze River and the Qiansimen Bridge over the Jialing River in Chongqing, China are located at the tip of the Yuzhong Peninsula. Together, they are called the Twin River Bridges. Both are double deck structures carrying four lanes of traffic on their upper decks and two transit tracks on their lower decks. The girders are steel truss structures with orthotropic plates and the towers are made of concrete. Aesthetics were carefully considered for the design of these bridges because of their visibility in the city and their neighboring landmarks.
